Michael Douglas, Cameron Douglas' ‘Looking Through Water' Lands Summer Release (Exclusive)
Michael Douglas and real-life son Cameron Douglas are set to reunite on the big screen. Good Deed Entertainment has acquired domestic rights to Looking Through Water — a family drama feature starring Michael Douglas — and is planning a late summer theatrical release, The Hollywood Reporter has learned exclusively. Roberto Sneider helmed the film that co-stars Cameron Douglas alongside Walker Scobell, David Morse, Michael Stahl-David, Ximena Romo and Tamara Tunie. Sneider (Tear This Heart Out) directed the movie from a script by Rowdy Herrington (director of the original Road House) and Zach Dean (Fast X). Hailing from Aeth Entertainment, the project is based on the novels Catching Big Fish and Looking Through Water from author Bob Rich, who executive produces. Producers include Robert Mitas, Stan Spry, Carla Woods and Eric Woods. Storyboard Media's Elisabeth Costa de Beauregard Segel executive produces and handles worldwide sales. Costa de Beauregard Segel and Carla Woods negotiated for the film that was previously known as Blood Knot. 'With Good Deed and Storyboard Media on board, we're excited to bring Looking Through Water to audiences — it's a story of healing, forgiveness and second chances, while the American pastime of fishing connects generations through water,' says Aeth Entertainment CEO Eric Woods. 'We are honored to be teaming up with Aeth Entertainment and Storyboard Media to bring Looking Through Water to audiences in the U.S. later this summer,' adds GDE head of acquisitions and distribution Erik Donley. Michael and Cameron Douglas previously starred together in the 2003 feature It Runs in the Family, alongside Michael's late real-life parents Kirk Douglas and Diana Douglas. Michael was last seen on the big screen in 2023's Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. Cameron Douglas' recent credits include the 2022 Bruce Willis-led action film Wire Room and the Apple TV+ series The Crowded Room. Abigail Breslin, Booboo Stewart to Star in Dramedy Movie ‘A Good Fight' (Exclusive)
Booboo Stewart, Abigail Breslin and Aaron Kuban are set to star in a movie about an interview gone awry. The performers have been cast to lead director Robert Rippberger's drama-comedy feature A Good Fight, The Hollywood Reporter has learned exclusively. The indie film has a script from Pierce Gardner (Dan in Real Life), and producers include Justin Shaner and Fernando H. Rojas for Sobe Brooke Studios. The movie's tone is compared to that of It's a Wonderful Life as the lead character figures out how to navigate his best path. Production is set to begin later this month. The project will shoot in part at Rippberger's White Lightning Studios in North Carolina, with some scenes set to film at Meredith College in Raleigh, North Carolina. 'Abigail and Booboo bring such heart, depth and authenticity to everything they do,' says Shaner. 'This story walks a fine line between humor and emotional honesty, and we couldn't ask for a better cast to bring that balance to life.' Adds Rippberger, 'We're honored to partner with Meredith College. This collaboration reflects our commitment to build meaningful ties with the local creative community, while creating real-world learning opportunities for the next generation of storytellers.' Stewart was recently cast in the chess thriller feature Contra alongside Kal Penn. He has appeared in the X-Men and Twilight film franchises. Breslin landed an Oscar nomination for her role in 2006's Little Miss Sunshine. She has since appeared in the movies Zombieland, August: Osage County and Stillwater and such series as Scream Queens and Accused. Stewart is represented by Sovereign Talent Group and TSC Entertainment. Breslin is repped by Paradigm Talent Agency and Untitled Entertainment. Kuban is repped by Taylor Talent Services. Nearly 600 heat-related deaths expected in UK heatwave, researchers estimate
Experts at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) and Imperial College London used decades of UK data to predict excess mortality during the hot temperatures from Thursday to Sunday. Their study, released on Saturday, forecasts that around 570 people will die because of the heat over the four days. The excess deaths are estimated to peak at 266 on Saturday when the heat will be at its most intense. London is predicted to have the greatest number of excess deaths with 129. The researchers said their assessment highlights how extreme heat poses a growing threat to public health in the UK. It follows a World Weather Attribution (WWA) research group study published on Friday which found the heatwave has been made about 100 times more likely and 2-4C hotter due to climate change. Dr Garyfallos Konstantinoudis, lecturer at the Grantham Institute at Imperial College London, said: 'Heatwaves are silent killers – people who lose their lives in them typically have pre-existing health conditions and rarely have heat listed as a contributing cause of death. 'This real-time analysis reveals the hidden toll of heatwaves and we want it to help raise the alarm. 'Heatwaves are an underappreciated threat in the UK and they're becoming more dangerous with climate change.' Dr Konstantinoudis warned that people should follow heat-health advice this weekend and check on older people, particularly those living alone. Temperatures had been forecast to hit 32C across the South East on Saturday and had already reached that level on Thursday in London. The UK Health Security Agency issued an amber heat-health alert covering all of England to warn vulnerable populations of the health risks, including 'a rise in deaths'. Dozens of people required treatment for heat-related illness at Royal Ascot on Thursday. The researchers used findings from published research on the relationship between heat and the number of daily deaths, regardless of the cause, in 34,753 areas of England and Wales. They combined these with high-resolution weather forecasts from the Copernicus climate change service to estimate how many heat-related deaths will occur. They estimated that 114 excess deaths would have occurred on Thursday, 152 on Friday, 266 on Saturday and 37 deaths on Sunday, when temperatures will fall to the mid-20s. People above 65 are expected to be hardest hit, with 488 of the estimated excess deaths, the report said. But the experts also warn that heat can be life-threatening for all ages, with 82 deaths estimated for people aged under 65. They also note that the analysis does not account for the effect of the heatwave occurring early in summer before people are acclimatised to hot temperatures, meaning deaths could be underestimated. A recent report by the UK Climate Change Committee estimated that heat-related deaths could rise to more than 10,000 in an average year by 2050 if fossil fuel burning causes warming to reach 2C. UN scientists warned this week that the world is in 'crunch time' to limit warming and has three years left to prevent global average temperature rises exceeding 1.5C. Professor Antonio Gasparrini, of the LSHTM, said: 'Increases of just a degree or two can be the difference between life and death. 'Every fraction of a degree of warming will cause more hospital admissions and heat deaths, putting more strain on the NHS.' Dr Malcolm Mistry, assistant professor at the LSHTM, said: 'Exposure to temperatures in the high 20s or low 30s may not seem dangerous, but they can be fatal, particularly for people aged over 65, infants, pregnant people and those with pre-existing health conditions. 'Unless effective mitigation and adaptive measures are put in place in the coming years, the risk of large heat-related death events is set to increase in the UK – we have a large ageing population and warming is expected to increase to 2C by 2050 and as high as 3C this century.' Dr Lorna Powell, an NHS urgent care doctor in east London who was not involved in the study, said: 'We are seeing cases of heat-related illnesses rising in our urgent care departments. 'Heat exhaustion can quickly trigger more serious illnesses as dehydration sets in and the cardiovascular system becomes overwhelmed.'

Jon Bernthal Joins Tom Holland in ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day'
Jon Bernthal has appeared in several Marvel television series as the stone-cold vigilante known as the Punisher, even headlining his own series. Now he's taking his guns to the big screen. Destin Daniel Cretton is directing the feature, which will shoot in England this summer and has a July 31, 2026, release date. Much of the movie remains shrouded in mystery. Movie rumor websites have listed upwards of a dozen possible villains, from crime bosses to alien symbiotes, who could appear in the feature, as well as a couple of different versions of the Hulk. The only thing clear at this stage is that Zendaya and Jacob Batalon are reprising their roles as MJ and best friend Ned, although how substantial those roles will be remains unclear. And Stranger Things star Sadie Sink is the big new addition so far. The story takes place after the events of the previous movie, Spider-Man: No Way Home, in which the entire world knew Peter Parker was Spider-Man and then had that knowledge erased. Having Bernthal as the Punisher seems to point to a slightly more grounded angle on the story as the character hails from the gritty street corner of Marvel's universe and, in the comics at least, uses fists, knives and guns to tussle with bad guys, rather than spells or fancy tech. But hey, having him square off against a rampaging Hulk could be fun, too. Bernthal first showed up as vigilante Frank Castle, aka the Punisher, in Marvel's Daredevil Netflix series, then starred in his own series that ran for two seasons. He recently returned for a few episodes in Daredevil: Born Again on Disney+. Marvel is betting on more Punisher and Bernthal in the months and years to come. The character is set to return for season two of Born Again and Marvel is bringing Bernthal back for a Punisher stand-alone feature for Disney+. Bernthal is co-writing the latter. Curiously, one nonnegotiable he had for his return to Daredevil was maintaining the character's violent, R-rated feel. It will be interesting to see how that translates into the more kid-friendly tone of the Spider-Man movies. Bernthal and Holland have a charmed history together when it comes to Marvel. The duo were working on the 2017 feature Pilgrimage when prepping to audition for their Marvel roles. The actors helped each other with their audition tapes. This year, Bernthal's big-screen output has included starring opposite Ben Affleck in The Accountant 2 for Amazon and appearing in the Rami Malek thriller The Amateur for 20th Century Fox. Bernthal is repped by CAA and Sloane Offer.
